Non-discriminatory Policy
The New Student Admissions process is a regular selection procedure held each cycle to recruit students in alignment with their areas of interest. This process considers the applicants’ qualifications and the available capacity, with several admission pathways. There are three admission pathways: e-Report Selection, Computer-Based Test (CBT), and Scholarship Track. One Day Service (ODS) is a one-day service allowing applicants to become registered students within a day. This service covers all steps from selection registration to the re-enrollment process. All prospective students are given equal opportunity, regardless of ethnicity, religion, race, intergroup background, or nationality
Underrepresented Groups Application and Admission
Monitoring diversity in admissions is an integral part of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta’s (UMS) commitment to inclusivity. The university systematically tracks applications and admissions data for underrepresented groups, including low-income students, ethnic minorities, women, non-traditional learners, and students with disabilities. Admissions data are recorded through the Sistem Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru (SPMB UMS), which allows annual analysis of access trends. UMS also supports equitable access through targeted financial assistance, such as the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) College Program for 54 low-income students and various scholarships benefiting 599 students across departments. These efforts ensure that opportunities for higher education remain open to all.

Planned Recruitment Actions for Underrepresented Groups
Promoting equal access and representation in higher education and employment is a strategic priority at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS). The university implements planned actions to recruit students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly those facing financial or social barriers. For student recruitment, UMS provides inclusive pathways through the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) College Program and several scholarship schemes such as the Tunas Unggul Muhammadiyah Scholarship (BTUM), Kiai Haji Ahmad Dahlan Scholarship, and Hafidz Al-Qur’an Scholarship, which supported 599 recipients in 2024. In staff and faculty recruitment, UMS follows an open and merit-based process guided by equal opportunity policies that ensure fair consideration regardless of gender, ethnicity, or disability status. These efforts reflect UMS’s comprehensive approach to building a diverse and inclusive academic community.
Anti-discrimination Policy
All UMS academicians have equal rights in terms of education and services provided by the campus. We are committed to creating a campus without discrimination.
Equality and Diversity Committee
We also present a special committee that handles issues of equality and diversity in the campus environment. Center for Gender Studies is one of the committees to realize gender equality based on Islamic values.
Support for Underrepresented Group
Educational assistance continues to be provided by providing scholarships for underprivileged students, as well as students from developing countries. This commitment aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve quality education.
Disabilities Facilities
People with disabilities have the right to equal access to education. For that, we always support by providing a number of supporting facilities for people with disabilities.
Disabilities Support Services
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta is committed to ensuring comprehensive access for individuals with disabilities. In accordance with PUPR Ministerial Regulation No. 14/2017, we have provided facilities such as wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms, and elevators in several buildings. Specific classrooms on the ground floor are also designated for easier access in buildings with fewer levels. Our commitment is formalized through the UMS SOP for Disability Services. In addition to optimizing campus facilities, infrastructure, and human resources to support disability services, UMS is also pleased to collaborate with various institutions to expand disability services. These collaborations are outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), agreed upon by both parties as a sign of commitment and dedication to a world without discrimination.
Disabilities Access Scheme
Access schemes at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) ensure equal opportunities and participation for individuals with disabilities in all aspects of campus life. In line with PUPR Ministerial Regulation No. 14/2017, UMS provides wheelchair ramps, elevators, and accessible classrooms supported by the UMS SOP for Disability Services, which defines academic accommodations and assistance procedures. Beyond facilities, UMS actively promotes inclusion through initiatives such as the “Suara Tangan” workshop on sign language education, organized by Communication Science students with Gerkatin Solo and DVO Solo, and by integrating sign language interpreters into major university events such as MASTA 2024. These ongoing initiatives reflect UMS’s holistic commitment to accessibility, empathy, and inclusive engagement for the disability community.
