UMS Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) held a talk show on mental health and student self-discovery. This initiative reflects the university’s ongoing commitment, especially by FAI, to support student mental well-being and prevent acts of violence on campus. The talk show carried the theme “Mental Health and Student Identity Discovery as a Center of Excellence in the Development of Al-Ulum Al-Islamiyah.:
The event brought key stakeholders, including the Disciplinary Commission (Komdis), Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Support (SMHWS), the Office of Legal Consultation and Aid (BKBH), and the Sexual Harassment Prevention & Handling Task Force (PPKPT).
Dr. Mutohharun Jinan, M.Ag., Vice Dean III of FAI UMS, explained that the event aimed to raise awareness about the various student support services provided by the university.
“The goal is to provide services that help students realize and actualize their full potential,” Jinan stated on Friday (9/5/2025) at the Mohammad Djazman Auditorium.
Dr. Marisa Kurnianingsih, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., Chair of the PPKPT Task Force, gave a comprehensive presentation on the survey results regarding violence within the UMS environment. She emphasized that the task force's oversight includes not only sexual violence but also other forms of abuse, such as bullying.
Marisa also explained that UMS provides accessible support services for victims, whether or not they have given formal consent. These services include MMC, BKBH, with the possibility of further reporting to the police, as well as LPPIK and the SMHWS.
Responding to a question from a talk show participant regarding bullying cases, the UMS Faculty of Law lecturer clarified that bullying is defined by its repetitive nature, involving the same perpetrator, the same victim, and the same setting.

“This behavior stems from inequality. Inequality can take many forms, economic disparities, such as poverty and wealth, or social inequalities in the community,” Marisa explained.
She also emphasized that the PPKPT Task Force operates independently and is not influenced by any external parties when making decisions.
“Then, we also provide recommendations to university leadership regarding the severity of sanctions,” she added.
In addition to Marisa’s explanation about the PPKPT Task Force, Dr. Muchammad Iksan, M.H. elaborated on UMS Disciplinary Committee (Komdis), which oversees student conduct. The committee operates based on UMS Rector Decree No. 84.1/I/2018 concerning the Student Code of Conduct.
Another key point discussed was the presence of the BKBH, which offers legal assistance services, as explained by Avip Rusdi Hananto, S.H. Meanwhile, SMHWS which provides mental health services and identity development support, was presented by Dra. Partini, M.Psi., Psychologist.
