“Mencerahkan, unggul, mendunia!”

That is the slogan of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), demonstrating its steadfast commitment to enhancing academic and institutional quality. This commitment is further realized through a collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UMP) to introduce a new undergraduate study program. The program, known as PSDKU (study program outside main campus) for Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD), aims to meet the evolving educational needs.

UMS Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr., Drs., Harun Joko Prayitno, S.E., M.Hum., explained that PSDKU is being established at UMP Palembang and in several strategically selected provinces.

“This is a tangible effort to enhance the capabilities of human resources for competition—developing excellent individuals capable of adapting to the demands of the global computing era,” stated Harun on Saturday (3/2/2024).

The statement was made by the UMS Rector, Prof. Sofyan Anif, M.Si., during a coordination meeting for the launch of PSDKU. The meeting included the Rector of UMP Palembang, Dr. Abid Djazuli, along with the Vice Rector and Dean.

During the coordination meeting on Thursday (1/2/2024), the Rector of UMS and the Rector of UMP Palembang agreed to professionally manage and develop the PSDKU study program. The goal is to produce professional Elementary School (SD/MI) teachers with HOPE (Progressive-Moderative) capabilities.

The UMS PSDKU program at UM Palembang was inspired by UMS long experience in successfully developing UMKT East Kalimantan, UMMAD Madiun (now being developed by UMS into UMJT), UMMAM Malaysia, Indonesian language study program at Al Azhar University Cairo Egypt, and PSKJJ in Sorong Papua.

Harun Joko Prayitno added that PSDKU Undergraduate PGSD at UMP Palembang will be structured with OBE (Outcome-Based Education) in mind, featuring smart classroom lectures and a 21st Century IT (Talent Innovation) learning approach. Graduates of Undergraduate PGSD PSDKU at UMP Palembang will emerge with well-rounded competencies suitable for the era of global computational communication.

“The continual innovations and creations spearheaded by UMS serve as unequivocal proof that Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah, through PTMA, consistently collaborate to enhance human resources capable of thriving in competition. UMS remains judicious and committed to delivering education across the country, from Sabang to Merauke,” stated the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.
