Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) officially inaugurated two new professors on Wednesday (29/4/2026) at the Moh. Djazman Auditorium, UMS Campus I. With this addition, UMS now has a total of 72 professors.
The two professors inaugurated are Prof. Kussudyarsana, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., appointed as professor in the field of entrepreneurial strategy management and family business governance at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and Prof. Arum Pratiwi, S.Kp., M.Kes., Ph.D., appointed as professor in the field of psychiatric nursing science at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK).

Muhammadiyah Central Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si. extended his congratulations on the inauguration of the two new professors at UMS. In his view, the appointment further strengthens UMS's excellence and quality as a Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah Higher Education Institution (PTMA) that holds a top accreditation and has achieved recognition at both national and international levels.
"We hope that with the addition of professors across all PTMAs, and particularly at UMS, the quality of the four pillars of Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah higher education will continue to improve," Haedar said.
He urged that being part of a PTMA should mean more than academic self-actualization. It should mean contributing to the intellectual advancement of the nation, educating the next generation, and building their character so they become people of faith who are devoted in worship according to their religion, as well as those of other faiths.
In terms of character, he expressed hope that professors would embody noble ethics and continue to sharpen their intellect while mastering knowledge, technology, and their fields of expertise, becoming individuals who bring great benefit to society at large.
"This is why lecturers, including professors who hold the highest academic rank, must continuously deepen their dedication, service, role, and responsibility in educating the children of this nation to become well-rounded, complete human beings," Haedar said.
Prof. Arum Pratiwi, S.Kp., M.Kes., Ph.D. delivering her academic address at the open session for the Professor Inauguration at the Moh. Djazman Auditorium, UMS Campus I.UMS Public Relations/Imam Safi'i Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Chairil Anwar, an expert panel member of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development, noted that Indonesia currently has approximately 12,000 professors in total, of whom 478 are affiliated with PTMA institutions.
Breaking that figure down further, there are 96 PTMA professors in Central Java, 63 of whom are from UMS. That figure of 63 refers to UMS professors who have not yet retired.
"So roughly 66 percent of PTMA professors in Central Java come from UMS," he noted.
UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum. stated that the addition of two new professors further strengthens UMS's educational transformation. He urged the newly inaugurated professors to go beyond conducting research and to pursue research that makes a real impact.
"Keep innovating without pause, keep conducting research. Not just research that is useful, but research that contributes, research that is sustained," Harun said.
That means, he continued, that becoming a professor should not mark the end of one's research journey. It should not stop at paper-based outputs, but should translate directly into contributions that reach down to communities and the people they serve.
