To support digital transformation and optimize information services, the Library and Digital Services Center of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held a Socialization Program for FIND@UMSLib on Monday (28/7/2025). Taking place in the Main Meeting Room of the UMS Library, the event was attended by all UMS Library staff.
Head of the Digital Management and Services Division of UMS Library, Hardika Dwi Hermawan, S.Pd., M.Sc.ITE., stated that the presence of FIND@UMSLib is an important innovation in an integrated search system with partner libraries owned by the UMS Library.
“FIND@UMSLib is not just a search portal, but the new face of UMS information services that is unified, efficient, and integrated with the collections of UMS Library’s partner institutions,” he said.
Head of UMS Library, Maria Husnun Nisa, S.Sos., M.A., emphasized the importance of understanding and being able to operate digital features. This understanding is crucial to create a progressive digital ecosystem within the UMS Library.
“This activity is very important so that all library staff thoroughly understand the features, functions, and benefits of the FIND@UMSLib service,” she said.
The socialization of FIND@UMSLib was delivered by Khoirudin Nur Wahid, S.Pd., who serves as an IT staff member as well as part of the system development team. Wahid explained that FIND@UMSLib is a single search portal service based on the VuFind software. This tool was developed to provide easier access to the collections and information resources owned by UMS Library.
The FIND@UMSLib service can be integrated with several partner collections that collaborate with the UMS Library, such as Universitas PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Aisyiyah Surakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Madiun, and SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta.
The integration of UMS Library’s collections with its partners will increase user accessibility and the visibility of both UMS Library and partner collections. In addition to introducing the technical use of the platform, the socialization activity was also designed as a forum for internal capacity building for staff.
Participants were invited to directly try out the search features, understand the collection categories, and practice answering common questions asked by users related to digital services. “The hope is that staff can become the frontliners in bridging the interaction between users and the library’s digital system,” said Khoirudin.
Through this socialization, the UMS Library and Digital Services Center reaffirmed their commitment to continuously innovate services and foster a digital literacy culture that is inclusive and excellent. This activity is also part of the strategic program UMS Library Digital Transformation in supporting the university’s vision to become a world-class campus based on technology and the excellence of Islamic values.
