FEB UMS Initiates International Collaboration with Nagoya University Japan

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta has initiated efforts to establish an international partnership with Nagoya University. This initiative is part of FEB UMS's commitment to expanding its global network in education, research, and international academic collaboration.

An FEB UMS delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Muzakar Isa, S.E., M.Si., CSBA., CIPE held discussions with Prof. Otchia Christian Samen from the Graduate School of International Development, Department of International Development and Cooperation at Nagoya University. The meeting explored various strategic collaboration opportunities between the two institutions.

“During the discussion, both parties examined potential areas of cooperation, including joint research, visiting professor programs, student exchanges, and the development of globally oriented academic programs. This initiative also serves as an initial step toward strengthening FEB UMS's academic presence on the international stage,” Isa stated on Wednesday (27/5/2026).

FEB UMS selected Nagoya University as a prospective partner due to its strong international reputation in education, research, and global collaboration. The university is also recognized for offering various scholarship opportunities for international students and for fostering an academic environment that supports the use of English in teaching and research activities.

“Nagoya is considered a strategic location as one of Japan’s major centers for education and industry, with a relatively affordable cost of living compared to other large Japanese cities. This provides added value for FEB UMS students and faculty members by supporting international exposure, opportunities for further study, and global research development,” he added.

Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Aflit Nuryulia Praswati, S.Sos., S.E., M.M., CMA. stated that the visit reflects FEB UMS commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education.

She explained that FEB UMS continues to promote academic partnerships, research collaboration, and cultural exchange at the global level to produce graduates who are adaptive, innovative, and capable of competing internationally.

“International cooperation is an important step in broadening the academic perspectives of both students and faculty members, while also creating opportunities for collaborative research and the development of educational programs that address global needs,” she said.

During the visit, FEB UMS also introduced its academic achievements and flagship programs, including initiatives in entrepreneurship, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the creative economy, and digital transformation in business and management.

Furthermore, FEB UMS reaffirmed its commitment to building sustainable global networks through collaborative research projects, visiting scholar programs, student exchanges, joint research publications, and the development of academic programs with international partners.
