According to UMS Taekwondo UKM coach Muhad Fatoni, this achievement is the result of intensive and structured training.
“We conduct training camps regularly, with programs carefully designed by the coaching team. The strategies we used were prepared from the beginning and tailored to each athlete’s characteristics,” said Muhad on Wednesday (30/4/2025).
Muhad added that this championship is not just about results, but part of a long-term athlete development process. “Our main goal in this competition was to increase the athletes’ experience and match exposure. The results are quite satisfying, even though some categories didn’t meet the target,” he added.
This was reinforced by silver medalist Wahyu Ardiansyah, who revealed that preparations had begun as early as February 2025. Although he didn’t win gold, he considered this competition a valuable experience to sharpen his mental strength and gain more match exposure.
“At first, we focused on basic training, then moved on to physical conditioning, techniques, and regular sparring sessions. The opponents were tough, many came from major universities well-known in the taekwondo,” said the sixth-semester student.
Although not all targets were achieved, the 20-medal haul at the WTA Indonesia Taekwondo Championship 2 proves that athlete development at UMS Taekwondo UKM has not been in vain. The coach is now setting a higher goal for UMS taekwondo athletes: to compete at bigger events such as Pomnas (National Student Sports Week).
