The Tapak Suci team from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (TS UMS) once again secured medals at the National Pencak Silat Championship “2nd Magelang Championship” 2023, held from June 2-4, 2023 at GOR Samapta, Magelang.
Head Coach of TS UMS, Nur Subekti, S.Pd., M.Or., expressed his gratitude for the achievements of his team. According to him, after securing the overall champion title in Jakarta, the UMS Team has again excelled with 4 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the National Championship in Magelang.
“Alhamdulillah, for the umpteenth time participating in the event, we managed to sweep the medals. This championship in Magelang serves as a training ground, with participants ranging from various levels, from elementary school to university,” he expressed.
The gold medalist from the Islamic Economic Law department, Yunita Maha Mukti, expressed her happiness because after participating in this competition three times, she finally won the gold medal.
“At first, I was a bit down because I skipped practice several times, but thankfully, I hope to be more diligent in training after this,” Yunita said.
Short Preparation
According to Subekti, the preparation for participating in the National Championship in Magelang was relatively short. He mentioned that the Tapak Suci team only had two months to prepare. In addition, Subekti had to divide the team into several groups to participate in other matches, including one in Jakarta some time ago.
“The coach had to divide the team. Those who went to Jakarta were in the second tier, those in the first tier were preparing for the National Sports Week (PON), and those who went to Magelang were in the third tier. This is our training pattern,” he added.
Opportunities for Everyone
Seeing the outstanding achievements that have been attained, Subekti stated that all UMS students have an equal opportunity to participate in championships at various levels.
“This is proof that, considering all aspects and from every perspective, the UMS team has the potential to participate in events on both national and international stages. After seeing this at the national level, it can serve as a benchmark for maintaining achievements, because in the future, championships will not only be at the national level but also at the international level,” emphasized Subekti.
UMS Support
Subekti mentioned that UMS has provided tremendous support. He highlighted that UMS actively collaborates with the Student Affairs Office in training and nurturing students to excel in championships.
“We express our gratitude to UMS, which has always supported us. May this result encourage the athletes and coaches to remain steadfast in their training, not becoming complacent or arrogant,” he concluded.
The Head of the Student Affairs Office, Ir., Ahmad Kholid Alghofari, S.T., M.T., expressed his pride in the achievements of the UMS Tapak Suci team.
“Certainly, this achievement is the result of hard work. It requires consistent training, considering the medal strengthens the position of UMS Tapak Suci UMS at the national level,” He stated.
According to him, all Autonomous Organizations and Student Clubs at UMS are provided with facilities to develop their abilities, both academically and non-academically, at both national and international levels.
