FKIP UMS Students Embark on Student Exchange to University of Northern Philippines

Five students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) embarked on student exchange to the University of Northern Philippines as part of the SEA Teacher Project in 2023. From September 26 to October 23, 2023, these students will immerse themselves in a diverse range of activities, including observing school operations, engaging in teaching practice, and fostering cultural exchange with local students.

The five FKIP students came from three different study programs, they are Rahmadani Witi Amalia (Biology Education), Amalia Febriyanti (Biology Education), Afifah Dwi Widyastuti (Mathematics Education), Cavella Noor Putri Anisa (Mathematics Education), and Rofi Anwar Syaputra (Elementary Teacher Education).

SEA Teacher Project is one of the programs initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) which focuses on the exchange of teaching students. The program itself relies on international school practical experience to develop education in the region and increase the competence of prospective teachers. Previously, FKIP UMS had done several student activities in other countries, such as: Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia.

Vice Dean I of FKIP UMS, Mauly Halwat Hikmat, Ph.D. explained that this student exchange activity is very important for students and institutions. 

Through this program, students can improve their competence in global competition while gaining in-depth cultural experience. For UMS, this is an event for the internationalization of FKIP in encouraging education at the international level," said Mauly on Friday (29/9).

Head of the Micro Teaching Laboratory, PLP, and KKNDik FKIP UMS, Muhammad Fahmi Johan Syah, Ph.D. said that students who have the opportunity to study abroad will gain a lot of experience in facing a more complex future.

“Students will be equipped with many experiences to be able to adapt to various situations, such as the real world whose challenges are increasingly complex. This program can also improve foreign language skills, build international relations, and improve career prospects by having valuable international experience on their CV,” concluded Muhammad Fahmi.
