A delegation of lecturers from the Physical Education Program (Penjas), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), introduced the innovation called Bodyweight Exercise and Technique Intensive (BEX-TI) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
BEX-TI is a specialized training model for pencak silat designed to enhance the performance of athletes in the sparring category. The model was developed by UMS Penjas lecturer Dr. Nur Subekti, M.Or., in collaboration with experts, academics, and pencak silat practitioners.
“BEX-TI is a training model proven to effectively improve physical performance and specific techniques,” said the UMS lecturer on Monday (5/5/2025). He presented BEX-TI during a guest lecture at UTM recently.

Dr. Nur Subekti aims to introduce BEX-TI as a pencak silat training method that enhances the physical performance and specific techniques of athletes in the sparring category. He presented the research and development behind BEX-TI, while also discussing the benefits and advantages of the method in improving pencak silat skills.
He was accompanied by four other UMS Penjas lecturers: Dr. Eko Sudarmanto, S.Pd., M.Or., Dr. Pungki Indarto, S.Pd., M.Or., Muhad Fatoni, S.Pd., M.Or., and Agam Akhmad Syaukani, M.Ed.
The visit was part of a collaborative initiative between UMS Physical Education Program and the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology, Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at UTM. It aims to enhance the quality of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharmai) in the field of sports.

The event, held on April 29–30, 2025, is expected to strengthen ties between UMS and UTM and open new opportunities for collaboration in sports.
“Through this collaboration, we hope to enhance the quality of education, research, and community service in sports, while also advancing the development of pencak silat in both Indonesia and Malaysia,” he concluded.
