Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Policy
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion through its Rector Regulation on the Prevention and Handling of Violence (2025), which ensures a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic environment for all members of the university community. The policy addresses various forms of violence, including physical, psychological, sexual, bullying, discrimination, and intolerance, and is guided by principles of non-discrimination, gender equality, accessibility for persons with disabilities, accountability, and fairness. It applies to students, staff, leadership, and partners, and is supported by institutional mechanisms such as a dedicated task force, reporting channels, and victim protection and recovery services to ensure effective prevention, response, and continuous improvement. Dedicated Training on Sosial Aspects
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) provides regular training programs addressing the social aspects of sustainability for both academic and professional staff.
Key programs include:
- PEKERTI (Basic Instructional Skills Training), which enhances lecturers’ pedagogical competencies in planning, delivering, and evaluating inclusive and student-centered learning, supporting equitable education quality.
- Baitul Arqam, a mandatory program strengthening ethical values, integrity, and social responsibility based on Muhammadiyah principles
- Excellent Service Training for administrative staff, focusing on empathy, professionalism, and inclusive service delivery to stakeholders.
- E-learning (MySpada) Training, which improves digital teaching skills and promotes accessible, technology-enabled learning environments.
These programs are conducted regularly as part of institutional human resource development to ensure quality education, ethical conduct, and inclusive service, contributing to the university’s social sustainability commitment.
Health and Wellbeing
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta is a home where students are comfortably living, studying, and achieving. Therefore, we make sure that our campuses are fully liveable with provision and access of healthy canteen, health-care services, and even mental health support.
